Presentation vineyard

The Château de Fonbel is located very close to the medieval town of Saint Emilion. The property is one of Alain and Pauline Vauthier's 3 vineyards, which all are known for producing prestigious wines. Château de Fonbel is located on the plain of Saint Emilion and includes about 16 hectares of land. The soil consists of sand gravel and 4 different grape varieties, Merlot (60%), Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Petit Verdot (10%) and Carmenère (5%), are cultivated here. Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline (Châteaux Ausone and Moulin St. Georges) have greatly improved the quality of Château de Fonbel, using the same methods as for Château Ausone. They have put all their knowledge and expertise in the wine making to bring out a great Saint Emilion Grand Cru. The average age of the vines is 20 years and the harvest is done manually.

Sommelier's advice

A lively and intense red color. The nose has aromatic elements of black currants, strawberries and some notes of mint, licorice and smoke. The palate is fruity<br /> with present but silky tannins which give a sense of freshness. To pair with a côte de boeuf.

Château de Fonbel – Saint Emilion Grand Cru is made from 70% merlot, 16% cabernet sauvignon, 7% de Petit Verdot and 7% Carmenère. The fermentation and storage is mainly done in steel tank, but also 30% in oak barrels. About 120,000 bottles are produced.
