Jardin d’été from Château de la Viaudière is a sweet dessert wine from the Coteaux de Layon appellation. A “vendange tardive” with generous hints of lychee, pineapple and honey. Perfect as an aperitif, to a fruit cake or to try with blue cheese !

Presentation vineyard

Château de la Viaudière is situated not far from Champ-sur-Layon, about 30km south of the town of Angers in the Anjou region, right in the middle of the Loire Valley. This is where the famous sweet dessert wines Coteaux du Layon are produced, but also very good dry white wines and red wines. The castle of Viaudière was built in the 1500s and it's the family Gelineau which, generation after generation, has produced and commercialized the wines. Today it's Olivier Gelineau's son in law, Pierre-Antoine Giovannoni, who after having finished his wine studies, controls the winemaking since 2000. Agnès, Pierre-Antione's wife is responsible for the vineyard and the wine cellar.

Sommelier's advice

A golden yellow color. The nose is fruity and sweet, mostly of lychee and honey. The palate is also sweet but without exaggeration - mainly fruity, also with hints of lychee, honey and exotic fruits such as pineapple. A dessert wine to serve as an appetizing aperitif or to a fruit cake, preferably with strawberries. Can also be paired with a blue cheese!

Château de la Viaudière – Jardin d’été – Coteaux du Layon – White wine is produced from 100% Chenin grapes. The grapes are harvested only in the beginning of November when the noble rot Botrytis cinerea has attacked the grapes. The sugar content in the grapes is then at its maximum.
