Presentation vineyard

Chateau Kirwan is located on the Cantenac-plateau, surrounded by a park with trees which are more than 100 year old . The estate belongs to the family Schüler who is originally from Hamburg in Germany, but who started a "negoce" activity in Bordeaux already back in 1739. The Chateau Kirwan was aquired back in 1925 and the owner family is still the same today. Chateau Kirwan has an impressively constant quality over the years and the winery is one of the 14 "3ème Cru Classé" from the 1855-classification.

Sommelier's advice

An intense and brilliant ruby red color. The nose has elegant aroma reminiscent of red fruit with hints of cherry, black currant, blueberry, but also of spicy hints of pink pepper and vanilla. The palate is soft, smooth with barely noticeable tannins. The acidity is in perfect balance with the sweetness. The finale ends in a mixture of ripe cherries with subtle toasted notes, along with the the impression of a caress in his mouth. To drink now or to keep in the cellar a few years for further roundedness.

Château Kirwan is made from 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand. The fermentation takes 18-25 days including the malolactic fermentation. The assembly of the differents ” cuvées” starts in November and the result is every year unique in its kind. The storage of the final wine continues for 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of them are new.
