Cinque Terre is a part of the Eastern Ligurian coast representing five medieval villages; Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore All 5 villages are rather inaccessible except from when taking the coastal train. Wine has been grown here for more than 1000 years, but they almost inhumanly difficult conditions on the steap hills, that makes it impossible to work with any kind of machine, has made that a part of the vineyards has fallen fallow. Today, there are enthusiasts who have resumed the wine cultivation and who today primarily offer white wines from the appellation DOC Cinque Terre and also the more upscale dessert wines Sciacchetrà.
