Patriarca from Soloperto is a full-bodied and oak barrels stored red wine produced from primitivo grapes. The nose has hints of ripe plums and vanilla. A storage primitivo to serve with meat and game dishes.

Presentation vineyard

Giovanni Soloperto started the family winery in 1969 and began producing bottled wine already five years before the Primitivo di Manduria obtained the DOC status. "A tasteful wine for the whole meal' he wrote on the bottles. Since then, the Primitivo wines from Apulia have become world famous. Soloperto is located in Manduria, at the inner side of the Italian foot heel, north of the Ionian Sea. The vineyards of the winery are exposed on the better areas of Manduria. The vines are cut, for the southern Italy very typical Alberello style and the grapes are picked by hand. The vines in Bagnolo are in some cases more than 100 years old, reaching up to 2.5m height. In Spina and Schiavoni on the other hand, the Primitivo vines reaches 40 years of age. Today it is Giovanni's daughter Sabrina and son Ernesto, who have taken over the responsibility of the vineyard.

Sommelier's advice

Deep ruby red color with violet hues. Intense elegant and complex aromas, primarily of ripe plums and red berries. The palate is also fruity and full-bodied with hints mainly of plum marmelade. The tannins are present but well-structured and unfussy. A certain fruity acidity which together with the tannins ensures a good potential for storage. A finish with light hints of vanilla. An elegant and complex Primitivo enjoy now or in a few years together with a meat or game dish in sauce.

Patriarca from Soloperto is made from 100% Primitivo grapes grown in Manduria and its neighbourhood. The vines are 45-50 years old and are cut in the typical southern Italian Albarello-style. The harvest takes place in September. The wine is produced according to the traditional technique and is then stored in oak barrels for 9 months before being bottled.
